Every now and then, I go on Youtube and look at videos of slam poets performing their poetry at final competitions. I came across this video a little while back and it has helped me to take a major step in my life. This has opened the door to helping me learn to love myself. The poem is called "Mantra for the Girl Who Forgot" and it is by Slam Poet Shanitiria "Shae" Harris. She performed this at the 2017 Women of the World Poetry Slam. And I was literally brought to tears by it. The video is below. After I watched this video, I was so inspired and it really gave me the strength to love myself, not just because someone told me to, but because this is how I've always felt. Before you can love anyone else, you have to love yourself. And if you don't then it is time you truly found out what that means. I think about this in every aspect of my life. I want to lose weight not because I don't think I am beautiful, but because I know I will be more healthier and I want to take care of myself. I want to wear earrings and jewelry and exciting clothes not because I want others to be interested in me, but because I like those things and how they make me feel. Comfortable. Goofy. Special.
